Eau de Cologne

Posted

The old German town has been founded as a Roman colony, hence the name, almost two thousand years ago.
Colony became later Cologne and finally in German language - Köln.

The town witnessed deaths of three martyr saints, and later thousands of pilgrims travelling to see their graves.
In Medieval time Cologne was known as the city of 150 churches.
At present in the city still there are twelve Romanesque churches with interesting details, like the tower of Gross St.Martin church, or wooden dors from the 11th century found in St.Maria im Kapitol.
But the churches went overcome in splendour by the Cathedral, which had no luck to the architects, as it took them almost six centuries to finish the building.
The museums exhibit the works of art painted by German artists, but also by the greatests foreigners like Rubens, Picasso or Dali.
The hard day of Cologne exploration may be finished with local beer - the famous Kölsch.
